Kaffeeklatsch today

I felt like doing lots of baking, and then having my friends over to eat lots of cake, and that's what I did this weekend, and it was good.

Started with baking cookies on Friday evening (cranberries in rum, granola, pistachios, cinnamon), did some more shopping on Saturday (no Crème Double in three large grocery stores, WTH? Used mascarpone instead), then baked a hazelnut sponge cake and a triple chocolate cake (melted chocolate, chopped chocolate, cacao powder), caramelized some almonds, and prepared a kilo of plums. Today, put a coffee cream and the almonds on the hazelnut sponge cake, made a streusel cake with the plums on a yeast dough bottom, and then made lots of tea and coffee and had eight friends over who ate two and a half cakes and some of the cookies.

Some time ago someone on the internet asked if there was a German word for "need to bake lots of cake, NOW". Actually, there is, and it's "Backwahn" (baking mania?). Which is a word play on the name of a guru popular in the 1980s and not, AFAIK in the official dictionaries, but very likely to be understood.

Now baking mania has run its course, sugar high is down to a general feeling of warmth and contentedness, and I'm very tired.
