The local newspaper prints Dilbert cartoons, and in the current storyline, Dilbert has become a genius by strapping a giant coffee cup to his back and keeping himself permanently caffeinated.

I can believe it.

Friday I had an annoying review of a longish paper at work. Result was, it's crap, but we need it to be crap to cover our asses. I hate that. Then I tried to keep up with my paperwork again and failed miserably. The software not only refused to cooperate, it thumped its nose at me. (I.e. "Hey, you didn't save! If you leave, your data will be gone!! But there is no 'save' button!!! BWA HA HA!") When I left work, I hated life, the universe and everything, went to a bookstore to calm my nerves, sat down in the café, read some, and drowned my sorrow successfully in coffee. When I cam home, I found that Dr Who and Battlestar Galactica were on SciFi, and the hotel TV got SciFi. The day looked a lot better already. Only, it turned out (at 11 pm when I finally thought to check the station's webpage) that the hotel got SciFi East. Different scheduling, they had Dr Who on at 7 instead of 8 and didn't have a rerun later in the evening. But as I didn't miss BSG and was still high on caffeine, I coped.

For Saturday, I had promised myself some activity, mostly to get my left leg back on line, and had planned to explore the Golden Gate Park. But I felt completely under the weather, didn't manage to crawl out of bed until 11 and felt disoriented and a little sick, so I cut my trip short at the first bookstore I found, before even reaching the BART station. One hour, half a book I might still buy and 1/3 litre of coffee later (it comes in large cups), I felt human again, but by then it was too late to go anywhere. Even as far south as I am, days are getting noticeably shorter. So I got a book on hikes in the SF area, bought groceries, was shocked (again) by how much it cost, returned to the hotel and tried the exercise room. I'm completely out of shape, again, and my heart rate does funny things. (I could blame this on the coffee, but I would be lying.)

The rest of the day I spent on the sofa, reading. I really should write, but I'm still not in the right mindset for it.
