An afternoon by the river
Jun. 12th, 2023 03:15 pmCeridwen had suggested that we go to the local SCA group's hangout, picnic and fighter practise yesterday (Sunday), because someone from the very early days of our shire was visiting, and that would be the chance to talk a little and catch up.
I was doubtful about this -- the ten years I was in the SCA were the most joyful and creative but also the most difficult decade of my life, and I had not left the SCA at the best of terms (and with a bad case of perfectionism which I have not yet managed to overcome).
But then, it's been 22 years, and it's not as if anyone would keep me from making myself scarce if I disliked it.
So, Ceridwen and I went, on this perfect sunny day, in a park by the river, where, I found, one can swim in the river among swarms of tiny fishes (though I didn't). I knew all of two people (who both did not recognize me, no surprise there, I changed my looks), there was talk, I watched some fighting with only mild old anger resurfacing, and Ceridwen and I left when the sun got too much for me.
No drama. And if I go there again, I'll bring my swimsuit.
