More on writing

lyornDifferent story this time -- I'm always working on everything at once, unless something really grabs my focus.
I'm very bad with names. Which is inconvenient because I write fic with a lot of world-building, and things and people in the worlds need names. I might be able to dig up one or two not-completely stupid names, but with the third or fifth it will usually sound as if it came from a very differnt language. I notice that, but I cannot fix it, except by accident. Even zompist's Language construction kit doesn't help me because I'm just clueless about sounds.
So my solution is to ask R___ who is brilliant with this kind of stuff to come up with twenty or thirty names that belong together linguistically.
Yesterday I found such a list in my drawer and did a big global search and replace over a fic. And now everything sounds vaguely Japanese, which is completely inappropriate, but at the whole it is a lot better than the random clusters of consonants and vowels that I had before.
The fic I did that with is the third in a cycle of four (or five). First is pretty much finished, third is finished now, fourth is outline only, second I have no clue what to do with.
