I had considered going hiking if today would be sunny, but as the days are still short, I had to make that decision by 10 am, and at 10 am it was still overcast. So I slept in, and then set out to clean the bicycle chain. Which was extremely overdue. The bicycle chain sprouted sediments.

I got this fun device from the bicycle shop, a plastic thingie with rotating brushes inside. Open it, pour in cleaning fluid, put around the chain. I was up to my wrists in sediment before I even got that far, and then the effort of pulling the device along the formless thing that the bicycle chain had grown into over the, um, years, made me displace the chain altogether so that I had to put the bicycle upside-down and get the chain back on, shedding intensely black sludge everywhere. Finally the chain was reasonable clean, the bucket with the warm water was deep black on the inside (I didn't get it clean again), and half a bucket full of cotton rags were finally ready to go to their last resting place.

But the chain is clean! I'm quite impressed with myself, because not only am I the queen of procrastinators, but I'm also absurdly clumsy. I had half expected never getting the device to work at all, or to damage the bicycle chain beyond repair in the process. So, major triumph!

After I had cleaned up and run the washer on my dirty-work clothes I went to the gym and attempted the first workout from "The New Rules of Lifting for Women", a book well-regarded in some places where I hang out on the 'net. Doing it involved a lot of moving around of gym furniture, but no one yelled at me. I discovered that squats with a barbell are damn hard, and that there are a lot of entertaining ways one can fall off a balance ball.

Back home I had the leftover kale which was even better re-heated than it had been freshly-cooked. And now the weekend is nearly over. I could use a bunch more sunny days of sleeping in and trying out new stuff.

I hope you lubricated the chain after the cleaning quite thoroughly, as the cleaning fluid does not only wash away the dirt but also most of the lubricant of the chain...

I did. The lubricant, just like the cleaning solution, was part of the cleaning set, to help the, um, practically challenged *g*
