Exercise: Recovery time

Went to the boulder hall on Sunday, and (maybe because the sun was shining, or because I hadn't had significant exercise all week), I was very energetic and spent two hours going up walls (having moved from "very easy" to "easy" now) with not really a break. Felt great!
Did not feel so great on Monday. My left arm hurt, and my right arm hurt like hell. Not DOMS, but persistent joint pain that did not care if I moved or not. I need ibuprofen to work, and to sleep. Didn't feel too good (but a bit better) on Tuesday (yesterday), either. I'm OK today. Not pain free, but OK.
I also noticed, that when I actually manage to do strength training Tuesday and Friday, and going to the boulder hall on Sundays, I have little energy and endurance.
This is annoying. I hope that it's the cold and damp to blame, and if not that, then going back to normal speed after 18 months of "not doing much". I hate to think that what's happening might be a new normal.
Anyways... it's my 49th birthday today! Seven squared! Should be a felicitous number!
